Recently, more and more handset manufacturers have been rolling out new phones based on the Android operating system. That would seem to be good news for Google, except that different manufacturers use different versions of Android, which complicates application development.

However, Google has a two-pronged plan to deal with the problem. First, they plan to roll out new versions of Android less frequently. And second, they plan to turn their attention to applications, away from the core of the OS.
