The World Bank has just announced that it is opening up access to its databases for free so that developers can use the data “to create new analyses, new tools and new solutions to global problems,” said Robert Zoellick, president of the World Bank.
In order to call attention to the new program, the organization is also sponsoring an application development contest. While details about the contest have not yet been released, the World Bank hopes to spur development of applications that track progress in the developing world.
