Everyone knows that Apple has the largest mobile app store, but a lot fewer people could tell you that GetJar is number two. Despite its status as a relative unknown, the four-year-old start-up recently celebrated its one billionth app download.
Unlike most other app stores, GetJar host apps for multiple platforms and devices. Company founders say that approach will assure that the store continues to grow for years to come.
Venture capitalists at Accel Partners apparently agree, because they’ve just given the company $11 million to fund its activities.
