Is the wall between development and operations beginning to break down? According to job search site Indeed, the term “devops” is turning up in more job postings. And Mike Maciag, CEO of Electric Cloud, says, “Two years ago, we didn’t actually see devops. I would say now, in 50% of our customers, we see devops. Devops is much more prevalent in the customer base and in the enterprise IT shops. I’m not yet seeing devops in embedded software companies, ISVs and the likes.”
But Forrester’s Mike Gualtieri warns, “I think [devops is] going to have a short life, mostly because of cloud computing and virtualization.”
