Multicore Coding Standards Aim to Ease Application Development

The Multicore Association says that it is working on developing a new set of APIs that will make it easier for developers to create applications for devices that use processors with more than one core. So far the group has finished its MCAPI (multicore communication API) and MRAPI (multicore resource management API) and is still working on some new virtualization APIs.

“There are many beneficiaries of establishing these APIs. But the primary goal for all parties is to establish portability,” said association president Markus Levy. The new standards remove the need for developers to understand the inner workings of the device hardware on which their application will run.
