Amazon Can’t Use “Appstore” Name in Germany

Apple has sued Amazon over the use of the term “app store” in several countries. In the U.S. the courts’ initial decisions have largely favored Amazon, but that doesn’t appear to be the case in Germany. Amazon has issued a statement saying, “For the time being, we are not accepting new app submissions from developers located in Germany.”

It explained, “We have been forced to impose this restriction due to a legal action filed by Apple in Germany seeking to prevent us from using the term ‘appstore’. We believe Apple’s claim is without merit and are actively contesting it.”
