One of the big draws of Amazon’s Appstore for Android is the “Free App of the Day.” Because Amazon’s developer agreement promises to pay developers 20 percent of their asking price no matter what the purchase price is, most people assume developers are getting paid when they are featured as the “Free App of the Day.” However, blogger Shifty Jelly says that isn’t the case. “Here’s the dirty secret Amazon don’t want you to know,” says the blog, “they don’t pay developers a single cent.”
According to the post, not only do developers not make any money when featured for free, the attention doesn’t generate an increase in downloads after the promotion day is over.
