In an interview, Chris Weber, Nokia’s top executive for America, said that iOS and Android’s reliance on the app model is “outdated.” Instead, he says that Nokia’s new phones featuring the Windows Phone 7 Mango release will introduce users to a more integrated approach featuring “live tiles and hubs.” For example, users will be able to look up a contact on these new phones and then communicate via LinkedIn, Facebook, text, or Twitter without having to open the individual apps for each service. They will all be integrated within the contacts list.
Nokia’s phones will also offer completely hands-free voice operation and integration with Office 365. They will become available in the U.S. in volume in 2012.
