W3C Launches Community and Business Groups

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has announced the availability of Community and Business Groups. The Community Groups will allow any developer to propose new Web standards, and the Business Groups will allow companies from specific industries to do the same thing. The first Business Group will include members from the oil and gas industry.

“Innovation and standardization build on each other,” said W3C CEO Jeff Jaffe. “The stable Web platform provided by W3C has always encouraged innovation. As the pace of innovation accelerates and more industries embrace W3C’s Open Web Platform, Community Groups will accelerate incorporation of innovative technologies into the Web.”
