GitHub is launching a new version of its source code hosting services called “GitHub Enterprise.” The new product includes all the standard GitHub features, but it’s available as a virtual machine that enterprises can host on their own servers. GitHub Enterprise also adds support for corporate authentication systems, backups, custom server-side git hooks and access over HTTP. Prices start at $5,000 per year for up to 20 users.
SourceForge launched a similar enterprise product years ago, but floundered. Time will tell if GitHub is more successful in its venture.
