New Programming Features in Visual Studio 11

According to S. Somasegar, Vice President of Microsoft’s Developer Division, the upcoming release of Visual Studio 11 will feature several new language specific features. They include the following:

  • For JavaScript: support for ECMAScript 5, improvements to IntelliSense, debugging improvements, a new DOM Explorer and a new REPL (Read-Evaluate-Print Loop).
  • For Visual Basic/C#: better support for asynchronous programming.
  • For C++: reference highlighting, semantic colorization, better support for parallel programming and the ability to build native Windows Metro apps.
  • For F#: the introduction of F# 3.0 and the Type Provider functionality.
