In an effort to recruit more developers for its struggling platform, RIM is offering free PlayBooks to Android developers who create apps for the tablet. In order to qualify for the promotion, mobile development pros must submit their apps by February 13. The PlayBook software is compatible with Android apps, which the company hopes will make the platform more appealing. Currently, RIM has about 51,000 apps in its BlackBerry App World
Observers note that the plan may also be a way for the company to reduce its inventory of PlayBook tablets, which have not sold well.
