In order to compete with rivals Amazon and Apple, Google is launching a new book, music, movie and app store called “Google Play.” Play will bring together Google Music, Google Books and the Android Market. Customers will be able to access the store from smartphones, tablets or PCs. Developers hope the change will attract more customers and make it easier for users to find their apps.
“This is a smart move to position itself as a content provider. Google now has an offering that can rival iTunes,” said SearchEngineLand.com editor Danny Sullivan. Currently, iTunes handles 70 percent of all digital song downloads.
