In an article for for ZDNet, Forrester analyst James Staten writes that cloud computing is entering a second stage characterized by “hypergrowth.” The firm predicts the market will be worth $191 billion by 2020.
Recent corporate quarterly earnings announcements seem to support this assertion. For its most recent quarter, Amazon posted 60.5 percent revenue increase in the “other” category, which includes sales for its Amazon Web Services division. Similarly, Microsoft doubled sales of its cloud-based Office 365, as well doubling revenues for the Azure cloud computing services.
