Until now, Docker has dominated containerization, but CoreOS aims to change that with the release of Rkt (pronounced “rocket”) 1.0. The company claims the new container runtime offers better security than Docker. It also features “daemon-less” behavior and support for Intel’s Clear Containers technology.
“We’ve spent over a year refining everything that has been going on with rkt,” CoreOS CTO Alex Polvi said, “and we’re now ready to call it 1.0 and have people start building against it.”
