Docker has officially released the 1.0 version of its open source containerized virtualization solution. This is the first version of Docker that is available with commercial support.
When apps are packaged in a Docker container, they should work identically whether they are on a developer’s laptop or on an enterprise’s servers. CEO Ben Golub explained that this makes it easier for developers to update their apps, and it also makes it easier for IT operations staff to allow those changes to occur. ?We have taken a huge pain point for developers and given them a solution,? he said. ?And we have solved a big pain point for sys admins as well. We have made Dev and Ops happy.?
At the same time, the company also announced Docker Hub, a new marketplace for “dockerized” apps.
