IBM has unveiled a new cloud development environment called the IBM Data Science Experience. The company says that the new environment, which is based on Apache Spark, is the “first cloud-based development environment for near real-time, high performance analytics.”
The Data Science Experience is currently available as a preview on IBM’s Bluemix cloud development platform. A blog post about the service describes it as “an interactive, collaborative, cloud-based environment where data scientists can use multiple tools to activate their insights. Data scientists can use the best of open source, tap into IBM’s unique features, grow their capabilities, and share their successes.”
About a year ago, IBM said it would invest $300 million and devote 3,500 developers to Spark-related work.
