Joyent Open Sources Core Cloud Computing Software

Joyent has always offered some of its software under open source licenses, but now the company has announced that it will open source some of its core cloud computing technology. That includes SmartDataCenter (SDC), Joyent’s container based cloud orchestration software, and Manta, its object storage solution.

While much of the open source cloud runs on Linux, Joyent runs on SmartOS, which is derived from OpenSolaris. Joyent also manages the Node.js project, and much of the newly open sourced code is written in JavaScript using Node.js.

The source code for the Joyent software is available on GitHub.
