Oracle Software Engineers Write Proposal for Java Value Types

Oracle engineers have submitted a formal thesis of proposed enhancements to the Java Virtual Machine and Java language to support small, immutable value types.

In their “State of the Values” proposal, Oracle Java language architect Brian Goetz, consulting engineer John Rose and Oracle Labs software architect Guy Steele, described their approach for adding value types (also known as user-defined primitives)–immutable records or restricted classes to the JVM instruction set.
