Report: HTML5 Popularity Increasing

HTML5 isn’t developers’ first choice as a mobile platform, but more people are using it as a secondary platform to reach a broader audience—at least that’s what a new report from Vision Mobile seems to indicate. According to Developer Economics Q1 2014, HTML5 and iOS are now nearly tied for mindshare in the mobile development industry, with 52 percent and 55 percent respectively. However, while 59 percent of iOS developers say iOS is their primary platform, only 26 percent of HTML5 developers say the same thing.

Android has the highest developer mindshare of all—71 percent. But Android apps continued to earn less than iOS apps—$101-$200 per month for Android compared to $500-$1,000 per month for iOS. Interestingly, HTML5 came in second in the money race, with apps averaging $201-$350 per month.
