In 2009, mobile device users downloaded 2.4 billion applications. For 2010, ABI Research expects that figure to soar to 6 billion, as smartphone sales jump up 20 percent and the number of app stores grows. However, revenue from applications will decline as competition puts downward pressure on prices.
For the time being, ABI expects that the iPhone will retain its position as the top mobile platform, but believes Android will make strong gains during the year.
