According to Distimo and CSS Insight’s App Vu Global Report, some of the smaller app stores are growing the fastest. Although Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace placed fifth in the overall number of apps, it grew the fastest of the app stores tracked between January and April, climbing from 60,000 to 80,000 apps during the period. Similarly, the Amazon Appstore had the fewest apps of any store in the report, but it grew 40 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011.
At the other end of the chart, Apple’s App Store continues to have the most apps, and it’s still adding apps more quickly than second place Google Play.
