Microsoft Visual SourceSafe (VSS) doesn’t store its data in a format you readily can use, and MSwouldn’t put the “Analyze and Fix” option on your menu if it wasn’t needed. To automatically save your development projects in their native formats, justtell SourceSafe’s Admin -> Tools -> Options to set your Shadows folder.
If you set “Shadows” to the root project “/$”, then all the projects in yourVSS database get “Shadowed” automatically—even the new ones, as they arecreated.
It’s also a good idea to make the Shadow Directory on another hard disk, back it up regularly, run the “Analyze And Fix” routine every now and again, and regularly Archive the SourceSafe data (VSS Admin Main Menu).
