Hyperlinks opening a new browser

Hyperlinks opening a new browser

Question:
I’m working on a Web site in Microsoft Front Page, and when I browse the home page in either Netscape of Internet Explorer, all the hyperlinks on the page open a new browser. The only exceptions are the hyperlinks from the image maps. I don’t want this to happen, but I can’t find any unusual HTML code, so I don’t know how to fix the problem. To give you some background, this site already exists but we’ve been hired to update it, so I saved the current site from Netscape as HTML files, then opened them in Front Page to manipulate them from there. Thanks,Betsy Hedberg-Keramidas

Answer:
Make sure that the target=_top. This will open the links in the samewindow.

One of two things may be happening to cause the page to open each link in a new window:

  1. There may already be a target in your links that is causing them to appear in a new window.
  2. There may already be a base target that =_blank or =_new, which would also cause the behavior you describe.
