How to change a picture format to JPEG

Question:
I have recently bought a scanner and now have the capability to put pictures on my computer. How do I save pictures in JPEG format instead of bmp format. The MS Paint program makes the downloads very lengthy. Is there anything that I can do? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Answer:
Try Microsoft Image Composer 1.5.Just open your .BMP picture in Image Composer and select all. Image Composer has a nice feature (from the File menu) that lets you “Save for the Web”. It shows you the appearance of the images you can get by juggling file size, image quality and file formats, .GIF or .JPG.
