SQL fucntion calls

Question:
Does SQL have a function to get only the time–rather than getDate()–which gets the date and time, or a function to get the Unix time() time. (the one that give the seconds since 1970).

Answer:
If you can handle the time as a character string, the convert function can be used to return just the time. So convert(char,date_field_name,108) will return only the hh:mm:ss. Check out the formats supported by convert in the reference. Additionally, you can use the datepart function to return any part of the date–be it the hour, minute, or second–as an integer. However, to get all three, you would have to call the function three times.
