Selecting One Person Per Address

Question:
I have a mailing list with one record per person, but I want to mail to only one person per household. How can I select just the first record in a group where multiple records have the same address? I think it’s SELECT DISTINCT, but I can’t get the syntax right.

Answer:
You need some element in the record that identifies it as the one from the family you want. I suggest doing a MAX or MIN on the birthday or in the name with the match on the family name ID in the address.
