How to Load Data from TXT Files

Question:
How do I pick up useful data from a TXT file and insert it into a database?

Answer:
You can tackle this problem two ways. If your data follows a structure (for example, it’s comma-delimited) then you can use the standard PowerBuilder ImportFile command to load the data directly into a datawindow and then update the datawindow to add the data to a database.

If the data is more complex and not structured then you can use the FileOpen | Read | Close commands to read the data into a local string variable. Extract the data, load it into a datawindow, and then update the datawindow to add the data to the database.
