Question:
I want users to be able to save a partially completed form, preferably to their hard disk with a user specified name, so that they can retrieve the file and complete the data prior to sending it for server processing. They may also choose to save the data from a completed form in the “form format” of the collecting file. Can JavaScript be used with the HTML form to bind the data and the form as a single savable file? either to the web server where it can be retrieved by the user or preferably to the user’s local drive?
Answer:
JavaScript cannot save a file to the user’s hard drive. For this example, I’d try using cookies. Then, when you load the page with the form, see if the cookies are already saved, and repopulate the form with the saved data if it exists.
