Skills for Wireless Development

Question:
What other skills besides Visual Interdev, VB, ASP, and DCOM/COM do I need to jump into Wireless development? Also, do you think Java technologies will take over Microsoft technologies in the Wireless area?

Answer:
I would focus on developing additional skills in XML, which translates into knowing how to write WML and WMLScript. If at all possible, also get a good foundation in wireless hardware technology. Since it is so new, the industry lacks people who are “jacks of all trades.”

As for Microsoft technologies versus Java technologies, Microsoft really doesn’t have an initiative in this area. So it’s still a little early to say who, if anyone, will come out on top.
