Checking on Daylight Savings Time

Checking for Daylight Savings Time is one of the most common date checks developers perform. .NET provides an easy method to do this.

In .NET 1.1, use the Timezone class' IsDayLightSavingTime method to determine whether a given DateTime falls into Daylight Savings Time.

TimeZone tzDLST = TimeZone.CurrentTimeZone;
DateTime dt = DateTime.Now;
bool isDLST = tzDLST .IsDaylightSavingTime(dt);
In .NET 2.0, you can do this directly using the DateTime class' IsDaylightSavingTime method.

DateTime dt = DateTime.Now;
bool isDLST = dt.IsDaylightSavingTime(dt);
