A new survey of developers conducted by Evans Data shines the spotlight on the difficulties inherent in securing big data. Of those surveyed, 39 percent suspect that the U.S. government is tracking their data. Among those who said they were sure they could tell if someone was tracking their data, a full 59 percent said they believed the government was accessing their data.
“Big data and big government both bring unique challenges,” stated Evans Data CEO Janel Garvin. “Security becomes not only a technical issue but can also become a policy issue that developers may not be able to address. In addition, cloud platforms, while providing necessary scalability for big data, may also increase the risk of governmental eavesdropping.”
