I’m using VB 3.0 to work with databases in the Jet 2.0 format. I expect it will be necessary to add new fields to the database sometime in the future. Will I have to create a new database file and then transfer all the old records to the new table (plus the new fields) or can I simply add the new fields to the table and carry on?What is the best strategy to follow to make the addition of fields in the future as easy as possible?
Answer:
Microsoft Access databases and tables can have tables and fields added and changed at any point. Obviously, if you delete a field with data in it, you’ll lose the data. Same thing will happen if you reduce the size of a text field, for instance. The data that doesn’t fit will be truncated.
