Ford has announced an exciting new software-based performance upgrade for the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT. Owners can now download this upgrade for $995 before taxes, which provides an additional 100 lb-ft of torque. This enhancement improves the Mach-E GT’s 0-60 mph time from 3.8 seconds to an impressive 3.3 seconds.

The upgrade boosts the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT’s total output to 480 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque. With these improvements, the Mustang Mach-E GT can complete the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 114 mph. This puts it in the same league as high-performance vehicles such as the Mustang Shelby GT500, Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo GTS, and Audi RS6 Avant Performance.

Ford has taken a page from Tesla’s book by allowing owners to download the performance upgrade through the FordPass app. This option will also be available for new 2024 Mach-E GT units. The ability to enhance vehicle performance via over-the-air software updates is currently unique to all-electric vehicles, and Ford’s $995 performance boost for the Mach-E GT offers significant value for money.

Software upgrade boosts Mustang Mach-E

Chet Dhruna, GM of integrated services at Ford, explained, “The freedom to move and customize the vehicle to make it your own is an important part of the ownership experience.” The upgrade enables the Mach-E to hit 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, surpassing several other electric vehicle models. The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT now features up to 700 lb-ft of torque and 480 hp.

Powered by an Extended-Range (91 kWh) battery, the 2024 Mach-E GT gets up to 280 miles of EPA-estimated range. The new Mach-E Rally trim is rated at 265 miles. Ford is transitioning from a hardware-defined company to software, a move CEO Jim Farley sees as crucial for future profitability.

The automaker is also developing smaller, more affordable EVs to stay competitive. Despite losses on EVs in the second quarter, Farley vows that Ford’s next-gen electric models will be profitable. Software upgrades, such as the newly released one, could help Ford maintain its competitive edge.

This development highlights Ford’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the driving experience without compromising warranties or requiring physical modifications. Mustang Mach-E GT owners eager to experience this boost can access the upgrade through the FordPass App.
