Google has introduced new AI-powered features to Gmail, making it easier for users to polish their email drafts. The company has added a “Polish” option to the Gemini-powered “Help me write” tool, available on both web and mobile platforms. The Polish feature allows users to input rough notes and transform them into a polished, formal email with a single click or tap.
This complements the existing options in the “Refine my draft” tool, such as “Formalize,” “Elaborate,” and “Shorten,” which were designed to streamline the email writing process. Gmail on Android and iOS has also been updated with shortcuts directly within email drafts, providing quicker access to AI writing tools.
Gmail’s new AI tools
These shortcuts appear next to the “attach” icon when the email draft is empty, allowing users to start the full “Help me write” experience. Once the draft reaches at least 12 words, the “Refine my draft” shortcut appears below the email content, giving users access to the complete set of refinement tools. However, these advanced features are currently available only to Google Workspace users who have the Gemini Business or Enterprise add-on, the Gemini Education or Education Premium add-on, or the Google One AI Premium plan.
Google has stated that the new features will be automatically enabled for all eligible subscribers. The introduction of these AI-powered tools is expected to enhance the user experience on Gmail, solidifying its position as a leading email service.
