Reddit has introduced a new privacy feature that gives users more control over their posts and comments on their profiles. Users can now choose to hide content from specific subreddits or all public posts and comments. The new options are found under the “curate your profile” tab in the settings menu.
There is also a setting for NSFW content, allowing users to hide posts and comments from subreddits marked as NSFW. However, users cannot hide individual comments or posts from their profiles. The posts and comments will still be visible in the subreddits where they were originally posted.
Reddit’s new privacy controls explained
Community moderators will have access to a user’s full profile for 28 days after any interaction, such as a post, comment, or request to join a private subreddit. After 28 days, the user’s chosen visibility settings will apply, but the timer resets with each new interaction.
Reddit seems to be making these changes to encourage more engagement on the platform without users resorting to disposable accounts. However, reactions have been mixed. Some users like the added privacy, while others worry that it may make it harder for regular users to identify harmful actions across different communities.
It remains to be seen how users will adapt to and use these new privacy settings.
