Patent-holding firm Lodsys has recently gone on a spree, sending threatening letters and suing many mobile development firms. Now Google appears to be stepping in to help defend its developers. It has filed a request with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the reexamination of two patents that have been at the core of much of this legal activity.
“We’ve asked the US Patent Office to reexamine two Lodsys patents that we believe should never have been issued,” said Google general counsel Kent Walker. “Developers play a critical part in the Android ecosystem and Google will continue to support them.”
