Antonblast release delayed due to hurricanes

The upcoming indie platformer Antonblast has faced an unfortunate delay due to the impact of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Developer Summitsphere announced that the game’s release date will be postponed from November 12 to December 3, 2024. Tony Grayson, the studio head of Summitsphere, reported that many of the studio’s principal players are residents of the affected region in the Southwest.

While the delay is not ideal, the team agreed that it was necessary to release the best version of the title. Despite the setback, fans of Antonblast won’t have to wait until December to get a taste of the game. The studio announced that a new demo, dubbed the “One Blast Demo,” will be available at the October Edition of Steam Next Fest from October 14th to the 21st.

This teaser will feature a revamped Boiler City level and the debut of the Slowroast Sewer level. The team is also working with Nintendo to make this new demo available on the Switch.

Delay caused by hurricanes Helene and Milton

Originally revealed in May 2022 through a Kickstarter campaign, Antonblast promises a vibrant, fast-paced, and explosive action experience. The game features a bright graphic style inspired by urban graffiti and offers a unique gameplay mechanic centered around destruction. Players can take on the roles of either Dynamite Anton or his coworker Annie, using Anton’s giant hammer to smash through 12 different worlds.

The ultimate goal is to recover the protagonist’s collection of Spirits, stolen by Satan himself. The game includes hand-drawn animations and 2.5D graphics, featuring intricate “screen-filling” bosses and a retro-inspired soundtrack. Antonblast also includes several game modes such as Hard and Boss Rush, catering to different player preferences.

While it’s great to see the team pick up after these two disastrous storms, they know their neighbors are still in need of help and urge those who can financially pitch in to seek out and donate to disaster relief groups. Antonblast is set for a December 3rd release on PC and the Nintendo Switch.
