The Polish studio Bloober Team has unveiled new details about its upcoming survival horror game, “Cronos: The New Dawn.” The game features a unique combat system where enemies hunt not only the player but also the corpses of other enemies. The monsters absorb energy from fallen bodies, evolving into greater threats. According to co-directors Jacek Zieba and Wojciech Piejko, who spoke at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, remote hiring was a key factor in the game’s development.
Many talented individuals would only join the team if they could work remotely. Zieba said, “We bolster a team with specific people,” noting that Bloober hired a dedicated “gunsmith” for the charge-heavy guns.

Cronos: The New Dawn” is set in Bloober’s hometown of Krakow, taking players on a time travel adventure from Soviet rule in the 1980s to a future apocalyptic hellscape. The game’s combat loop requires players to manage threats from all sides and prevent enemy corpses from becoming food for new spawns. The game’s gunplay and traversal mimic the “tank controls” of classic survival horror games.
Guns require charging before firing, giving enemies time to close in, and players use a resource-dependent flamethrower burst instead of a dodge button. Piejko emphasized that many specialists were hired because the company allowed remote work, stating, “It’s easier to get better specialists who love survival horror like us.
Bloober Team’s policy of allowing remote work aligns with CEO Piotr Babieno’s vision of sustainably growing a “safe” studio specializing in single-player horror games. The studio’s approach demonstrates what can be achieved when companies seek out developers with specific skills and work within their needs.
