The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC) have released the AI Cybersecurity Collaboration Playbook. This guide encourages voluntary information sharing to address vulnerabilities and cyber threats, improving collaboration among government, industry, and international partners. The playbook offers guidance for AI providers, developers, and adopters on how to voluntarily share AI-related cybersecurity information with CISA and other partners through the JCDC.
While primarily focused on strengthening collaboration within the JCDC, the playbook also provides actionable information-sharing categories relevant to critical infrastructure stakeholders and other sharing mechanisms. CISA urges organizations to follow the playbook’s guidance to enhance their information-sharing practices and contribute to a unified approach to counter AI-related cybersecurity threats across critical infrastructure. The playbook aims to:
1.
Enable collaboration between federal agencies, private industry, international partners, and other stakeholders to increase awareness of AI cybersecurity risks and improve the resilience of AI systems. 2. Provide guidance for JCDC partners on voluntarily sharing information related to cybersecurity incidents and vulnerabilities associated with AI systems.
3. Outline information sharing protections and mechanisms.

4. Describe CISA’s actions upon receiving shared information to strengthen collective defense. AI safety topics such as risks to human life, health, property, or the environment are outside the scope of this playbook.
These issues should be addressed through the stakeholders’ respective processes and procedures. The playbook also does not cover matters related to AI fairness and ethics. The playbook does not create policies, impose requirements, mandate actions, or override existing legal or regulatory obligations.
All actions suggested within the playbook are voluntary. It will be periodically updated to adapt to emerging challenges through active collaboration among government, industry, and international partners. A CISA spokesperson stated, “This playbook represents a significant step towards enhancing our collective ability to manage AI-related cyber threats.
We urge all relevant stakeholders to engage with this initiative and contribute to strengthening our overall cybersecurity posture.
Partners that supported this effort include various entities from the public and private sectors. For further details and to access the AI Cybersecurity Collaboration Playbook, visit the CISA website.
