Accenture’s State of Cybersecurity Resilience 2025 report reveals that 90% of organizations are not prepared to defend against the latest cyber threats. The rapid growth of generative AI has led to more aggressive cyberattacks, leaving most companies at risk. Only 10% of firms have reached what Accenture calls the “Reinvention-Ready Zone.” These companies have robust security plans and capabilities that work together to create systems that can recover quickly.

They are 69% less likely to be hurt by AI-powered cyberattacks and get 1.6 times more return on their AI investments. More than half of old systems are not addressing modern security threats. Only 13% of organizations have the advanced skills to manage such risks.

Just one-fifth are sure about their ability to secure generative AI models. Accenture emphasizes the importance of proactive measures to prevent disruptions, financial losses, and erosion of customer trust. The report says AI security should be a top priority for company leaders, not an afterthought.

Analyzing AI-driven cyber threats

The four suggested actions for achieving cybersecurity resilience are:

1. Creating a security plan that fits the company’s needs.

2. Building digital cores to be secure from the start for generative AI.

3. Keeping AI systems strong with active threat management.

4. Using generative AI to improve cybersecurity, expand defenses, and find threats sooner.

The findings show these investments lead to a 14% boost in threat detection. They also cut technical debt by 1.7 times. A significant shortage of cybersecurity talent is exacerbating the crisis.

83% of executives say workforce gaps are a significant challenge. Geopolitical pressures and shifts in supply chains are also creating new avenues for cyberattacks. The third quarter of 2024 saw 75% fewer cyberattacks compared to the same time of year in the previous year.

Ransomware, deepfake fraud, and supply chain attacks were the main threats. The rise of AI worms, such as Morris II, and AI voice scams targeting well-known individuals highlights the urgency of the situation. Despite these issues, only 17.5% of firms use threat intelligence well.

Accenture suggests using AI-driven automation. Generative AI can handle 71% of security tasks, helping to fill the talent gap and combat evolving threats. Accenture’s report is a strong reminder that cybersecurity must keep up with technology advances.

Companies are encouraged to adopt comprehensive and proactive security measures to mitigate risks and safeguard their operations in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
