Google Photos is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a suite of new AI-driven features. The updated Photo Editor will bring previously Pixel-exclusive tools to a broader audience. Two major editing tools, Auto Frame and Reimagine, will be available on Android devices next month.
Auto Frame suggests optimal crops for pictures and uses AI to generate new parts of the image if needed. Reimagine allows users to add elements like fall leaves or green grass that were not part of the original photo. The update also introduces the AI Enhance feature.
Selecting this option generates three different edits of a photo using tools like sharpening and object removal. Users can choose their favorite result. The AI Enhance feature can be found in the Edit menu.

Google has simplified the process of sharing albums. Users can now generate a QR code linking to their album, which can be scanned by friends or printed out for group settings.
The redesigned editor will arrive on Android devices in June, with the iOS version expected later this year. Google Photos has over 1.5 billion monthly users, with more than 9 trillion total photos and videos stored. To celebrate the 10th birthday, Google is sharing 10 tips and tools.
These include the redesigned editor, QR code album sharing, revisiting places you’ve been, getting specific with searches, and enjoying a look back at your month or year. Users can also create personal montages to share, use shared albums to stay close with long-distance loved ones, personalize what appears in their photo grid, customize memories, and free up device space. As Google Photos moves into its second decade, these new AI-powered features highlight its commitment to improving user experience.
The platform remains a crucial tool for managing and preserving digital memories.
