Kuldeep Dhankar, an Indian entrepreneur and founder of Last9.io, recently survived a car accident on the I-5 highway in California. He credits his Apple Watch for the swift response that ensured his safety. Dhankar shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), detailing how his car was rear-ended while stuck in traffic.

“Got rear-ended by a car while we were at a standstill in traffic, on the I-5 yesterday. The car behind was probably a total loss. (We are perfectly safe),” he wrote.

The Apple Watch’s crash detection feature sprang into action, automatically calling 911. “Apple Watch detected that we were in a crash and auto-called 911, and there was an officer on the scene within minutes,” Dhankar explained. Thanks to the quick response of the California Highway Patrol, Dhankar and his companions were able to leave the scene within 30 minutes and reach their destination safely.

“We were able to leave in 30 minutes and got to our destination safe. So impressed by Apple Watch and California Highway Patrol,” he added.

Dhankar expressed his gratitude for the technology and the swift action of the authorities. “Also thankful. Very thankful,” he concluded his post, which included an image showing the aftermath of the crash with a police officer at the scene.

This incident highlights the life-saving potential of modern wearable technology. The Apple Watch’s ability to detect crashes and automatically contact emergency services has proven invaluable in critical situations. However, it is important to remember that technology is not infallible.

In a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, three individuals lost their lives after their car, reportedly relying on Google Maps for directions, plunged off an under-construction bridge into a river. While technology can be a powerful tool in ensuring safety, it is crucial to exercise caution and verify the accuracy of navigation information, especially in unfamiliar areas.
