Mack Trucks will make remote software updates a standard feature for its vehicles by the end of March. This is part of the Mack Over The Air service and will be available at no extra cost. Nicole Portello, Chief Digital Officer, said during a virtual press conference that the automated software deployment system, AutoSend, will make update management easier for customers.
Customers with trucks that have driver-display activation will not have to track which trucks need updates. Portello said keeping trucks updated with the latest software improves performance and reduces downtime. Customers have often said they want seamless updates without having to manage the technical details.
AutoSend makes sure all trucks are kept current automatically. Mack Trucks also said it plans to overhaul its flagship semi-truck line with improvements set to be unveiled on April 8. The new truck is expected to greatly disrupt the industry, helping Mack increase its market share in the longhaul segment.
Mack’s current Class 8 on-highway portfolio includes the Anthem and Pinnacle models.
Mack’s automated updates enhance efficiency
The new product aims to triple its market share in this category.
Along with hardware improvements, Mack is offering self-service parameter updates through its Mack Connect customer portal starting in the second quarter of 2025. This feature will let fleet managers create and deploy custom parameter profiles directly. They can manage critical vehicle settings like road speed limits and idle shutdown parameters without needing help from Mack’s Uptime Center.
Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America, said he is excited about the company’s developments. He noted that 2025 marks Mack Trucks’ 125th anniversary. The remote software updates are expected to bring more peace of mind to fleet owners by letting them focus on other operational aspects while making sure their vehicles stay updated.
Fleet drivers will have a 28-day window to install updates, with the option to defer for a couple of days, similar to smartphone updates. This approach aims to increase vehicle uptime, which is especially important as the freight industry deals with changing rates and volumes. By adding these advanced features, Mack Trucks continues to innovate and stay relevant in the trucking industry.
