More than 100 respondents said they regretted not networking more or staying up to date on necessary skills. Conversely, some said they regretted being too ambitious.
They left stable careers to start businesses that ultimately failed. Michael R., 70, lost over $650,000 in savings and had to declare bankruptcy. This happened after his New York business crashed during the 2008 recession.
Many respondents also highlighted not prioritizing education as one of their bigger regrets in life. They felt that further education could have opened more doors to higher-paying jobs. This might have alleviated many financial struggles in their later years.
