Facebook’s Universal Sharing Challenged by Google, Microsoft, Meebo

On Wednesday, Facebook is expected to unveil a new “Like” button that Web site developers can post on their sites. Partnering with Google, MySpace, Microsoft, Yahoo and other, Meebo has launched a preemptive challenge to the service in the form of XAuth.

XAutho is a content sharing platform that will work with multiple social networks, in addition to Facebook. For example, site developers could use XAutho to post a Meebo social toolbar on their site pages; users could click buttons on the bar to share content on whichever social networks they belong to.
