Outage Reddit

Reddit experienced widespread outages on Wednesday afternoon, with over 150,000 users reporting issues accessing the site and app. The company’s status page indicated a “degraded status” for Reddit.com as of 1:16 p.m. PT. Users trying to access Reddit’s homepage received messages like “Server error.

Try again later,” and “We were unable to load the content for this page.” The outage impacted both the website and mobile app. Reddit spokesperson Tim Rathschmidt attributed the outage to a software update that unintentionally disrupted platform stability. Earlier today we shipped an update that unintentionally impacted platform stability,” Rathschmidt said.

We deployed a fix and are back up and running.

As of 2:16 p.m. PT, Reddit’s status page indicated that the issue had been resolved.

Reddit outage impacts thousands of users

However, some users might still experience difficulties accessing the platform, but services should be restored shortly.

Once billed as “the front page of the internet,” Reddit reported 2023 revenue of $804.0 million, up 21% year-over-year. The company has over 100,000 active communities spanning numerous topics and interest areas. In the past 90 days, Reddit has had very few significant outages, making this incident particularly noteworthy.

The company has experienced technical problems and has been working to resolve recurring outages. Reddit was acquired by Condé Nast in 2006 for $10 million, soon after it launched in 2005. 2011 Condé Nast spun out the site, while parent Advance Publications retained a minority stake.

Other investors in Reddit include OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, China’s Tencent Holdings, Fidelity, Sequoia Capital, and Andreessen Horowitz.
