While business apps aren’t nearly as important to the iPad platform as consumer apps, Jan Woodcock, an analyst with Wipro Consulting Services, notes that the number available is “growing quickly.” He adds that there are “a few hundred ‘high use’ mobile enterprise applications,” in addition to thousands of others that aren’t as popular.

Another trend is large software vendors like SAP and Oracle offering mobile apps for free as an added benefit of buying their larger software packages.

Woodcock also said that the iPad is becoming very popular as a tool for salespeople.
