In the past, Microsoft’s attempts at capturing a sizeable portion of the mobile phone market have been less than spectacular. Now, the company is trying to change that with a new strategy that revolves around recruiting the world’s best developers to create better apps for its new Windows Phone 7 platform. “The jury is still out as to whether this turns out to be a decisively winning strategy,” says IDC analyst Al Hilwa. “But Microsoft has certainly begun to right its course.”
According to Microsoft’s Larry Lieberman, Windows Phone 7 developers are creating an average of 100 new apps per day. In addition, he says, “Many developers are finding that it is taking (much) less time to build equivalent applications for our phone than the other phones.”
