GILD Compares the Skills of U.S. and Indian Developers

Which country produces better programmers — India or the U.S.? To find out, GILD compares the results of game-like skills tests completed by more than half a million developers. Here’s what they found:

  • Indian developers did 11 percent better than U.S. developers on math and logic tests.
  • U.S. developers scored slightly higher on tests measuring skills with C (U.S. 8 percent higher), JAVA (9 percent higher) and SQL (9 percent higher).
  • U.S. developers scored much higher on tests measuring skills with PHP (53 percent higher) and HTML (27 percent higher).
